Great cartoons here, Post editors. Since ‘Caprice’ has only been synonymous with the full-size Chevy for decades, I had to look up the definition of it otherwise. Anyhow, the bottom ‘toon (and opening picture) from ’66 is my favorite. Judging from the picture, I think the police were probably more amused by the boy’s exuberant drag racing challenge than irritated. Even so, I sense he had a scolding coming.
Ironically, the once once top-line Caprice was reduced to actually being police cars in the ’90s and 2000’s; at least with the L.A.P.D. Probably other states too (?), I don’t know. All those cars are now gone. That’s probably why the Ford Explorer has been the main seen for the past 10+ years.
